Butterfly Portraits
The butterfly...in many cultures she is a metaphor for spiritual rebirth, transformation, change, hope and life. The beautiful, but short, life of a butterfly reflects the process of spiritual transformation and is a reminder that life is short. This beautiful creature inspires me to create artistically imaginative portraits in which transformation is central. Using body-painted models, handmade butterflies, artistic wall hangings, decorative objects, floral art and theatrical costumes and accessories, I create staged portraits, blurring the line between reality and illusion.
Making these portraits is labour-intensive because everything you see in the image is real and is designed and made in advance by myself. After the photo shoot, I then use photo software to give the most beautiful images my characteristic scenic post-processing.
