The Fisherman's Bride
On a windy morning, Klaartje, the young fisherman's wife, stood looking out over the turbulent sea from Tulip Island. Her eyes followed the horizon, searching for the familiar silhouette of her lover, Michiel's, fishing boat. He was an accomplished fisherman and had spent his entire life in the North Sea, as had his father and grandfather before him. But times changed. The continued expansion of windmills in the North Sea, together with the introduction of stricter fishing quotas, had taken a heavy toll on the Dutch fishing fleet. Many were forced to sell their ships and choose another profession. Klaartje knew it was only a matter of time before Michiel also had to make this difficult decision. As she looked out over the waves, her mind drifted to the possibility that her fisherman husband could become the tulip grower of tomorrow.
The location; In the Wolderwijd near Zeewolde lies a characteristic Dutch peninsula: Tulpeiland. The island is not only shaped like a tulip, in the spring there are also about 120,000 tulips growing on this special island! The peninsula then turns into a large sea of tulips! The museum ship De Ark is located in the harbor of the Tulpeiland. The museum portrays the stories from the Bible.
