SAGE DER MEINWEG - 2024

Sage der Meinweg (Saga of the Meinweg) is a visual story (storytelling) in which Steenhorst brings nature spirits, such as elves and nymphs, to life in De Meinweg National Park in Limburg, the Netherlands.  Her message: The shy mythical creatures symbolically "step out of the shadows" to draw attention to the fragile balance of nature and the impact of climate change. The project combines handmade costumes, staged photography, storytelling and poetry. Ingeborg  designs the costumes herself and writes the accompanying story and poems.

Main components:

  • Exhibitions: Her graduation series was exhibited at the Ketjapfabriek in Vught (July 2024), in the Cultureel Podium Lutherse Kerk Maastricht (March 2025) at art festival Kunststroom 2025 in Wassenberg Germany (October 2025) and Kubra Art Gallery in Rosmalen the Netherlands among other venues.

  • Collaborations: For this series she collaborated with fellow artists and sisters Rafke and Kim Hotterbeekx, who act as models  for the various nature spirits.

  • Book: Ingeborg Steenhorst also aims to publish a art book based on this project, combining the photoseries, the narrative story and poems with educational facts about the nature reserve.
