Warrior
Headdress
Handmade by Ingeborg Steenhorst

The 'Warrior' headdress is part of the art collection 'Royals' by costume designer and visual artist Ingeborg Steenhorst. The collection features headdress designs inspired by extraordinary characters and royal women from the past, present and realm of fiction. Each design is delicate and handmade. This unique handmade and hand-painted leather headdress is inspired by the Celtic queen Boudica. The war queen of the Celts is said to have been born in 61 BC and to have sparked a revolution against Roman rule. She was the wife of Prasuiagus, chief of the Iceni people of eastern England, the area that now covers Norfolk and Suffolk. After the death of her husband, who enjoyed certain privileges from the Romans and left his kingdom to Emperor Nero to pay off his debts, Boudica was publicly beaten, her two daughters raped and their relatives sold as slaves. Boudica, together with a number of Iceni chieftains, plotted an act of revenge and went to battle against the Roman rulers with an army of about 100,000 Britons. A statue depicting Boudica in a three-horse chariot stands next to the British Parliament in London.
